As
nearly everyone knows Chinese astrological belief is
organized with reference to 12 animals. A Chinese
legend attributes the creation of these animal signs
to the, perhaps, mythical Yellow Emperor in 2637 BCE.
Another legend is that the Lord Buddha summoned all
the animals to come to him before he departed the
Earth. Only 12 animals came to bid him farewell. As a
reward he named a year after each of them in the order
that they arrived. This gives the (cyclic) order
Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse,
Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and finally Pig.
You
can find the animal of your birth year from the
chart below, and from it your birthstone, as the
Chinese would say, "This is the animal that
hides in your heart".
